US Open 2013: Roger Federer beaten by Tommy Robredo, Rafael Nadal beats Philipp Kohlschreiber,Andy Murray prepares to face Denis Istomin

Roger Federer's hopes of winning a sixth US Open title ended with a shock fourth-round defeat by Spain's Tommy Robredo in New York. The 32-year-old Swiss, who lost in the second round of Wimbledon two months ago, went down 7-6 (7-3) 6-3 6-4 on the Louis Armstrong Stadium.

Rafael Nadal avoided following Roger Federer out of the US Open as he fought back from a set down to beat Philipp Kohlschreiber and reach the last eight. Nadal managed to take just five of 21 break points to defeat German Kohlschreiber 6-7 (4-7) 6-4 6-3 6-1.

Uzbekistan's Denis Istomin will rely on his mother's coaching advice when he plays 2012 champion Andy Murray in the fourth round of the US Open on Tuesday. The pair will meet for the second time after Murray won their meeting en route to the Brisbane title in January. Their match will take place at about 02:00 BST (Wednesday) after Serena Williams plays Carla Suarez Navarro.
