3 things we learnt from the transfer window

1. Do your business sharp sharp
After failing to  defend their title, former english champions, Manchester city overhauled their team by buying Fernandinho, Jesus Navas, Stevan Jovetic and Alvaro Negredo for almost £90m within the first 20 days the window opened.

Barcelona and Real madrid did the same buy snapping Neymar, Isco and the rest of the top notch players.

The same cannot be said of Machester and Arsenal who waited until the eleventh hour of the transfer deadline to get marquee signings although some people argue United's signing was not what they needed.

2.  The EPL failed to attract the best of the best.

Even though the EPL spent an amazing 630million ponds in the transfer market, they failed to attract the very best players.

From Falcao and Cavani heading to France, to Neymar heading to Spain or Fabregas choosing to stay in Spain, to Alcantara heading to Allainz arena.

Although there are school of thoughts that suggest this may partly be due to the tax regime in the UK.
Overall, three of the 10 biggest deals across Europe involved players moving to clubs in England, and only one of the top eight.

3. Do not overhaul your management system at the same time

United failed to attract the very best because they had a new chief executive and manager, the success of predecessors were always going to be hard to reproduce. The big question would then be if it was an error to allow Ferguson and David Gill leave at the same time?
